My name is Mel Lee, I am an animator, editor and documentary artist. Having worked for 30 years in the broadcast and education sector. I have set up Birdsnest arts to share the skills and experience I have learnt over the years with you.

My Story
I am a documentary artist working across a variety of media from film, animation, to paint.
For the past thirty years I have worked across the Broadcast Industry, for companies such as the BBC, Sony Broadcast, and Granada and within Education, working with the community and students helping to bring their ideas and stories to life.
As a Post-production editor, with a background as a factual documentary director/editor, working in mixed media, animation and live action, I have spent my career researching stories, looking for new and exciting ways to bring those stories to the public. I am fascinated by real life events and am always looking for new ways to preserve them for future generations.
Having studied for a degree in Animation, followed by a Master’s degree in Visual Communication (specialising in Animation) and completing a PhD in 2019 looking at narrative through imagery, I have continued to develop my research portfolio exploring visual narrative through technology.
Now I work sharing those skills through workshops, classes and general community projects.
